Since 1991, when American Military University was founded by a Marine Corps officer, we’ve been on a mission to educate those who serve. Today, as the #1 provider of higher education to the U.S. military,* we have the experience and knowledge to help you take charge of your education.

With our long history of serving the military, we understand your unique challenges and have dedicated staff to support your learning efforts.In addition, AMU has created the Freedom Grant for active-duty servicemembers, their spouse/dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists, providing tuition that caps at the military TA rate:

  • $250 per credit hour for all undergraduate, master's degree, and graduate certificate students

To further minimize education costs, AMU also offers these benefits:

  • $0 book costs for all undergraduate and master's-level courses
  • $0 technology fee for active-duty military servicemembers, National Guard members, and Reserve personnel
  • Transfer credit for military education and training courses including CCAF, JST, DANTES, and ACE-evaluated training

*To minimize out-of-pocket costs, active-duty servicemembers, their spouse/dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists receive a tuition grant that caps undergraduate, master's degree, and graduate certificate tuition at $250/credit hour. In addition, a university book grant provides no-cost textbooks and ebooks for undergraduate and master’s-level courses to active-duty servicemembers, their spouse/dependents, National Guard members, and Reservists.

Yellow Ribbon Program

For our veteran students, we participate in the G.I. Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, which means we agree to make additional funds available for your education program without an additional charge to your GI Bill entitlement.
