Learn About Annie

AS in Public Health | School of Health Sciences

As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, Annie grew up understanding the power of education, even if her parents never had the opportunity to pursue it themselves. Inspired by her father’s words and her husband’s commitment to his Navy career and higher education, Annie set her sights on a degree that would allow her to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

Her path hasn’t been easy: cross-country moves, caring for her daughter with complex medical needs, and supporting her husband’s service while pursuing her goals. But through it all, she persevered.

Annie’s goal is to become a Physician Assistant, a dream she’s turning into reality on course at a time. Her story is one of strength, flexibility, and the relentless pursuit of a better future—not just for herself, but for her entire family.

How She Did it

Made it Work

Annie juggled caregiving, military life, and coursework—often studying late at night or between medical appointments. She found flexible ways to stay on track, one assignment at a time.

Pursued Her Purpose

Her daughter’s medical journey inspired Annie to go deeper into healthcare. She chose degrees that align with her goal of becoming a Physician Assistant.

Stayed Inspired

Annie leaned on her daughters for motivation. Their strength, kindness, and resilience remind her daily why the journey is worth it.
"All the staff, every professor, they were wonderful. They always told me whatever I need, they support me."
