This course focuses on the legal and regulatory issues associated with WMD response. Its topics include: associated public law, reporting authorities, jurisdictional and functional issues that govern organizational, technical, medical, scientific, moral/ethical issues, and, other aspects of response.

Current Syllabi

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

CO-1 Define the nature and varieties of the primary internal Federal Regulatory efforts that govern Weapons of Mass Destruction.

CO-2 Summarize different Weapons of Mass Destruction regulatory definitions.

CO-3 Analyze the U.S. Government's methods for providing resources to the Weapons of Mass Destruction Counter Proliferation Efforts and non-proliferation treaties.

CO-4 Synthesize the effectiveness of the intelligence community to assess, predict, and prevent the use of WMDs by terrorist organizations.

CO-5 Explain the process of primary care management for behavioral reactions during a weapon of mass destruction incident in the United States.

Forum Discussions – 25 percent

Each week, a discussion question is provided, and posts should reflect an assimilation of the readings. Students are required to provide a substantive initial post by Thursday at 11:55 pm ET and respond to 2 or more classmates by Sunday 11:55 pm ET. Forum posts are graded on timeliness, relevance, knowledge of the weekly readings, and the quality of original ideas. Your initial post should be at least 350 words. Please respond to at least two other students. Responses should be a minimum of 150 words and include direct questions. Attribution should be given to sources used.

Midterm Assignment - 25 percent

This assignment is an essay assignment of five questions to test knowledge and assimilation of the course objectives.

Webography - 25 percent

You will prepare and submit an annotated Webography outlining seven (7) Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) resource/response/counter-proliferation websites.

Journal Article Analysis – 25 percent

Select and review a journal article for an evaluation of the article's strengths, weaknesses, and validity. The analysis is used to inform of the article’s value through your explanation, interpretation, and analysis.
