I have broad and diverse experiences in academia. I earned my doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University (online), and a MA in English and BS in Speech Communication from Northern Arizona University. I have experience as a director of academic affairs, associate dean, a research consultant, and assistant director of leadership studies. I also design traditional classroom and online curriculum, and have more than eighteen years teaching experience for numerous colleges and universities throughout the US.
My primary scholarly interests are in creative writing, freelance writing, literature, composition, leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, successful team building, and communication as they apply to business and management situations. I am also interested in finding a solution to increase college/university retention, which I believe centers around the student’s lack of writing and critical thinking skills. I am a contributing author to the book The Century of the Holy Spirit; 100 Years of Pentecostal and Charismatic Renewal, and have written magazine articles.
I have an enthusiasm and passion for education that dwells deep in my being, which causes me to be a life-long learner. I know that learning extends beyond the traditional classroom setting, and I conduct leadership training and seminars in a variety of venues.
I am originally from Iowa. I met and married my husband, Robert (also Dr. Owens), while living in Arizona. We have since lived in other parts of the country and have recently moved to a small acreage in Iowa to grow up with our grand daughters. We are empty-nesters with one married son and two beautiful granddaughters. Our favorite sport is traveling, and we both enjoy manipulating clay, hiking and bird watching, writing songs, and playing the piano and guitar.
