This course is an introductory course to the Security Management field and is designed to familiarize students with the profession as well as to provide an overview of security measures used in the industry. Emphasis is placed on distinguishing the terminology used in the security industry. The student will be exposed to such topics as the privatization of public safety, use of technology and physical security, contract and proprietary security, executive protection, special event security, access control, integrated security systems, and the need for assessing vulnerabilities to increase the security posture of an organization.

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

CO-1: Describe the various functions and security measures associated with security management and special event security.

CO-2: Explain the function of the 4 “Ds” in private security (Deter, Deny (Respond), Delay & Detect) involved in a security organization’s operation.

CO-3: Describe the roll of a security manager in Risk Management (RM) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP).

CO-4: Identify the differences between physical security measures and access control measures.

CO-5: Illustrating the strategical approaches of layering and the Concentric Security Circle.

Midterm Assignment

This assignment is an essay that is to be a minimum of 4-6 pages in length.

Special Event Security

You are to research and write a 6 page paper addressing questions related to Special Event Security.

Final Assignment

This assignment is an essay of 8-10 pages in length.
