This course provides students with an understanding of sustainability and environmental issues and programs for today’s logistics and supply chain manager. Students will examine recycling activities of several corporations and examine “green” technology initiatives from using energy-efficient lighting to using wind and solar power. Legislation and regulations will be examined and discussed that place boundaries on greenhouse gases in manufacturing and in retail operations. International impacts on U.S. policies and programs, such as Cap-and-Trade will be examined in relationship to similar programs in other countries. The definition and potential impact of global climate change will be discussed. The student will examine how different manufacturing and distribution companies are complying or not with the Carbon Footprint concerns.

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to

• Identify components of sustainability resources
• Explain the logistical impact on the environment
• Define how the logistics industry can reduce its footprint on the environment
• Describe the economic impact of green logistics on the industry
• Detail what the green logistics concept is and the benefits versus the cost are
• Define the current initiatives and environmental regulations that are related to green logistics
• Identify the criterion for designs that logistics are able to go green
Describe how you will evaluate your students for each graded activity.

Forum Assignments (9 @ 36%):
All forums will be posted in the forum section of the classroom. Each forum will include an initial post and two responses. The due date for the initial response to the professor's question will be due on Wednesday 11:59 PM. This response must be no less than 250 words and no more than 500 words. The two responses, and the classroom, will be due on Friday 11:59 PM. These responses will be no less than 100 and no more than 200 words per response. This will be a total of 200 to 400 words for the responses. Forums, which are more than seven days past the due date, will be given no credit. Please keep in mind that the forums are an academic assignment and should be written in academic tone and voice. Use of grammatical language is required; the use of text language and other slang will result in the deduction of points.
Homework Assignments (1 @ 4%, 1 @ 10%, 1 @ 50% for a total of 64%):
There will be three homework assignments assigned in this eight week course. They will all be listed in the assignments tab and will open on midnight of the Sunday night before the week it is due. The written work will be turned in on APA format, double spaced, title page, reference page, and by Sunday 11:59 PM of the week due. This paper must be an original work of your own and surpass the eligibility of originality percentage. This percentage will be defined by the assigned professor to this class. To ensure your paper beats the originality percentage, please refer to your resources tab and the TurnItIn instructions.

The final product of this class will be proof of the understanding and obtaining of knowledge in the Reverse Logistics curriculum in the form of a research paper. This research paper will be 7 to 10 pages in length and topic will be chosen by the student and turned into the professor no later than the end of week two. This topic should be one which is dynamic enough to describe all aspects of Reverse Logistics. This topic will be turned in on the assignment tab before Sunday 11:59 PM of week two. The professor will accept the topic as your concrete topic by returning a check or will reject it and advise the student to find another topic, along with the reason why the topic is disapproved.
