This course examines basic learning processes within the context of classical, instrumental, and operant learning situations. Course content focuses on classical conditioning, instrumental learning, principles of reinforcement, punishment and avoidance conditioning, stimulus generalization and discrimination, retention and forgetting, nature and functioning of memory, and learning and performance of motor skills.

While completing this course, students will be able to:
CO1: Examine the historical development of cognitive psychology, outlining the philosophical and psychological schools of thought contributing to the field’s foundation.
C02: Investigate the methods of research applied to the study of cognitive psychology.
CO3: Examined cognitive psychology as a discipline of study and identify the significance of cognitive psychology.
CO4: Delineate the various types of learning, expressing the degree to which learning has occurred based upon measures traditionally applied.
CO5: Identify the structures and functions of the brain, examining the role of cognitive processes in controlling the systems and functions throughout the body through an understanding of the field of cognitive neuroscience.
CO6: Examine the major processes of consideration under cognitive psychology, identifying the related functions, theoretical explanations, and research models associated with each process.
