Course Code: ITMG321 Course ID: 3306 Credit Hours: 3 Level: Undergraduate

This course is a study of the planning and processes involved in an information system project. Microsoft Project is required as part of this course. Its topics include planning, scheduling, and controlling aspects of a project during its life cycle. The use of project management techniques such as PERT (Project Evaluation and Review Technique) and Gantt charts will be examined in depth as will be other techniques of planning, scheduling and controlling projects. This course meets the topical requirements for the CompTIA Project+ Certification.

Current Syllabi

The successful student will fulfill the following learning objectives:

  1. Describe the benefits of IT project management.
  2. Describe the skills required for project management.
  3. Map the tasks in the project initiation phase, to include: defining the business requirements, identifying the project stakeholders, defining project scope, establishing a project charter, and defining key roles and responsibilities on the project team.
  4. Illustrate project planning to include estimating and scheduling by creating a work breakdown structure and estimate time, resource, and cost requirements.
  5. Prepare comprehensive project plans for communication, resource management, procurement, risk and quality.
  6. Evaluate project team management performance to include budget, cost and resource utilization.
  7. Describe the strategies for managing change and for assuring quality.
  8. Explain the project management lifecycle through all of its phases.

Weekly Summary Review Questions

Each week you will complete the Weekly Summary Review Questions as selected by me and attached to the assignment.

Case Study Exercises

These are due during weeks two, three, four and seven. Each refers to a case study found in your book. Amplifying instructions are in the assignments.

Weekly Forums

Classroom interaction is a vital part of the online experience. Valuable knowledge can be gained from understanding the experiences of other class participants. You will earn participation points for activity in the forums.

I monitor the boards for participation so there is no reason for you to submit your comments and peer reviews as assignments. ***Weekly forums cannot be made up after the week in question.

Each week one or more questions will be posted in the forums. Your initial post must be before Wednesday at Midnight each week. Each student will provide at a minimum of one comment and one peer review each no less than 200 words.

Your peer review will review/analyze an input and provides justification why you agree/disagree with the information in the student input. You must always be courteous (professional) even in disagreement.
