This course is an advanced study of computer systems with a focus on operating systems, system administration, networking and security. Design, configuration techniques and troubleshooting skills techniques are covered utilizing a variety of hardware scenarios including: processor design, CPU architecture, number systems used in computing, storage subsystems, and memory subsystems, This course also examines the OSI model, networking, security, performance management, and capacity planning. This course covers the CompTIA A+ Certification curriculum. (Prerequisite: ISSC321)

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to achieve the following objectives:
(C01) Students should learn about troubleshooting models and look at troubleshooting everything from PC components to mobile devices, printers, and networks.
(C02) Students will learn about basic operating-system features common to most versions, including utilities, tools, and settings. Additionally, students learn the basics of client-side virtualization.
(CO3) Students will learn administrative features of operating systems that allow administrators to prepare, back up, and secure the file system, as well as maintain the system from the Command Prompt and Control Panel.
(C04) Students learn to differentiate the various versions of Windows 8 and are introduced to features that exist only in Windows 8.
(C05) Students learn to differentiate the various versions of Windows 7 and are introduced to features that exist only in Windows 7.
(C06) Students learn to differentiate the various versions of Windows Vista and are introduced to features that exist only in Windows Vista.
(C07) Student learn that Microsoft Windows isn’t the only operating system choice they need to be familiar with. They examine features and functions of the Mac OS and Linux operating systems.
(C08) Student learn the entire security domain of the 220-902 exam, including security threats and their mitigation. The destruction and disposal of data and the securing of wired and wireless networks are other topics covered in this session.
(C09) Student learns about topics related to cloud computing, network services, and virtualization.
(C10) Students learn about topics related to the mobile operating systems tested on the 220-902 exam, concentrating on the Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems as opposed to Windows.
(C11) Students learn about the standard A+ troubleshooting model as well as troubleshooting everything from operating systems and security to hardware and networks.
(C12) Students learn about safety and the appropriate safety procedures. They also learn the importance of good customer interaction and how to deal with privacy issues and what to do when encountering prohibited activities or content
Reading Assignments: Each week will require unit readings from the text.
Initial Forum Post: in the first week (only) students will post a 250-word introduction that is necessary for class enrollment by Wednesday at Midnight. This will be Topic 1 in your first week forum assignment.
Forum Assignments: Each week students will post an initial post of 200 words and two peer reviews of no less than 100 words (each) to two other students’ comments. Rubrics will be posted in the assignments section.
Weekly forums cannot be made up after the week in question.
Homework Assignments: These will consist of mostly unit review questions, forum participation and a final group project that include group partner reviews.
Final Group Project: The instructor will form student groups at the end of Week 1. The final group project will be completed following directions in the assignments. It will be submitted in accordance with the APA Style Guide (6th ed.) and will include a title page, abstract, content, conclusion, and references page. These requirements will be more fully described in the assignments section.
