Course Code: HRMT600 Course ID: 2665 Credit Hours: 3 Level: Graduate

This course serves as an advanced course in human resource management with particular emphasis on the strategic planning process for each of the functions. Students will explore the historical evolution and philosophical foundation of the field as well as evaluate the current practices that are being used to support Human Resources in the workplace. Future human resource management challenges will be examined, and the emerging concept of strategic Human Resource professionals as business partners will be highlighted.

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
LO1: Analyze human resources management and the changing role of human resources from past to present
LO2: Evaluate the challenges human resources face in modern organizations
LO3: Differentiate between the major HRM functions (Recruitment and Selection, Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations, Performance Appraisal, Training and Development, Employee Discipline, and Organized Labor)
LO4: Analyze the legal and ethical aspects of HRM in decision making
LO5: Conduct a basic job analysis and apply the understanding of job requirements to the HRM
systems of selection, compensation, training, and performance management
LO6: Examine the role of HRM as a strategic partner in different contexts, companies, and globally
LO7: Compare contrasting roles of HRM in organizational change efforts
LO8: Synthesize relevant knowledge of the effective use of human resources into a concise plan for implementation within an organization

Grading for the course will be based on the following:

  • Eight Forum Assignments
  • Two Written Research Assignments
  • One Final Project
