This course will provide an introduction to the collection, preservation, and basic crime scene investigations. Furthermore this course will also focus on the laws and court decisions relating to the admissibility of evidence as well as the appropriate methods of interrogation and its uses in the criminal justice process.

At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:
CO1: Specify the role of the investigator.
CO2: Demonstrate the use of the Investigator’s Notebook.
CO3: Outline the steps used in preparing investigative reports.
CO4: Recognize physical evidence at the scene of a crime.
CO5: Defend the documentation, collection, preservation, and presentation of physical evidence in court.
CO6: Explain the steps an investigator must take and document for a statement to be admissible in court.
CO7: Describe the types of evidence useful in the investigation of particular crimes.
