Grant funds are the cornerstone of the financial aid programs; they ensure that an economically diverse student population can enroll at the University. Grants are gift aid from federal, state, or university sources. They are awarded to students on the basis of financial need, and they are not required to be repaid. A predefined "financial need" formula established by the U.S. Congress uses the family financial information submitted through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility.
