In the Post-9/11 era, terrorism represents significant challenges to the security of nations worldwide. In order to prepare to meet these constantly evolving challenges, many intelligence and public safety communities are enhancing their knowledge and skills through advanced education. The University offers online degrees and certificates as part of its Counter Terrorism Studies program, which is designed to give working adults the flexibility to fit quality education into their busy schedules. Through this program, students explore the origins and motivations for terrorism, terrorist strategies, and the latest counter terrorism tactics. Through intensive research and classroom discussion, students gain an informed perspective regarding religious and political extremism and the link to current and long-term threats posed by national and international terrorist organizations.
The Counter Terrorism Studies programs offers associate, undergraduate, and graduate level curriculum, which closely examine the leadership, organizational structures, motivations, political objectives, and the repertoire of tactics terrorist groups are actively utilizing. The program also teaches leading threat-assessment practices and counter-strategies to mitigate terrorist risks.
At the University, students interact online with a network of peers, many who are dedicated members of the U.S. intelligence and public safety community. Students learn directly from expert faculty members. Many are leaders in the field, bringing relevant and extensive experience working in government agencies, military branches, and private security firms into the online classroom. The University’s fully-developed counter terrorism program and experienced faculty help to prepare students for the broad spectrum of challenges facing this discipline in its current emergency state.
