Steven SchwalbeSteve Schwalbe retired from the Air Force in 2007 as a colonel after 30 years of active duty service. His last Air Force assignment was as a professor of International Security Studies at the Air War College (AWC). He also served as the Director of the Regional Studies program for four years, and participated as a trip director or assistant for five (2002-2007). He completed his tour as the Associate Dean of AWC Distance Learning. Upon retirement, he moved to Spokane, Washington, to start a second career teaching online. Dr. Schwalbe currently teach online graduate courses for AMU and Air University.

Dr Schwalbe has a Bachelor of Science degree from the Air Force Academy; a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University; a Master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School; a Master’s degree from the Naval War College; an ABD from The George Washington University; and, a PhD from Auburn University in Public Policy (in 2006).

During his Air Force career, Colonel Schwalbe served as Assistant Defense Intelligence Officer for the Middle East and Terrorism; Pentagon IG Inspection Director; Air Attache to Korea; Air Attache to Jordan; and, Chief of the Air Force Military Assistance Program in Jordan. He also served as the lead analyst for Soviet General Staff-directed military exercises in the Defense Intelligence Agency in the 1980s, which is where is expertise on nuclear war comes from.

In his spare time, Steve serves as a volunteer fire fighter for Spokane County. He is a three-time and current president of the Cheney Rotary Club. And, he performs with two musical groups at Eastern Washington University: Honors Brass Quintet and the Wind Ensemble (French horn).
