Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science in Space Studies is a unique blend of the study of space science, management, operations, economy, and national security. You will be given additional flexibility to focus on specialized topics regarding space station, satellite, and spacecraft operations, as well as astronomy and space exploration.

This online bachelor’s degree also examines the significance of planetary and space explorations, space weapons, space weather, and astronomy. Very few space studies academic programs match the breadth and scope of this innovative online program, which attracts individuals from a variety of professions related to NASA, the U.S. intelligence community, government agencies, general education, science, and military sectors.

The curriculum for this online space studies program was originally designed by former NASA astronaut and Dean of Science and Technology Dr. James Reilly, veteran of three shuttle missions and five spacewalks.

Program Objectives

In addition to the institutional and degree level learning objectives, graduates of this program are expected to achieve these learning outcomes:

  • Conduct fundamental quantitative and qualitative research related to space systems and theory.
  • Analyze the principles of manned and unmanned flight outside of the Earth’s atmosphere.
  • Calculate and apply basic laws of planetary motion and gravitation, including two-body mechanics.
  • Describe rocket fundamentals including propellants, combustion principles and general components.
  • Assess the institutions of space law and determine how these institutions affect applications such as commercial and private satellite sales and arms control.
  • Describe the role(s) of key space organizations in the United States.
  • Evaluate the political and commercial significance of major national and international space endeavors, including past, current and planned.
  • Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of space systems in modern warfare, including manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as space-based platforms.

Admission Requirements

  • All AMU undergraduate programs require a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED).

Ways to Save

Undergraduate Book Grant

Ebooks are provided at no cost if you are enrolled in undergraduate courses for credit. The undergraduate book grant is estimated to save $250 per academic semester if you are registered as a full-time student.

Transfer Credits

Accelerate your degree completion by taking full advantage of our transfer credit options, including credit for your previous college courses, military service schools, American Council on Education (ACE) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, and prior learning experiences.
