HIST303 - The Middle Ages

This course will cover the history of Europe from the 4th/5th century when the Roman Empire was ending to the middle of the 14th century when the new nations were fully defined. Starting with the fall of the Romans and the effect of that fall on Europe, the course will cover the arrival of the “barbarian” invaders, the reign of Charlemagne, the rise of separate, new European states such as France, England and Germany as well as the Church, the relations between these states and with the Byzantine Empire, the period of the Crusades, and the development of different government systems in the various European nations.
(Prerequisite - HIST300/HS334 for History and Military History majors only).
