SPRING 2010 TOPIC: HISTORIC BATTLES: This course is an historical survey of turning point battles that have occurred over the past 2700 years. This course will consist of discussion and assignments which will help students to understand why certain battles in history are turning points that have determined the fate of mankind. Some examples of battles that will be covered are: Cannae, Romans vs. Carthaginians, Chalons, Romans vs. Huns, Waterloo, French vs. British, Verdun, Germans vs. French, and Stalingrad, Russians vs. Germans and The Ia Drang Valley, American vs. Vietnamese. The objective of the course will be for students to have a familiarity with these battles and to gain insight as to their significance in history. This course is a one-time offering on an area of special interest and may be applied to fulfill major course requirements or electives (with permission of the Department Chair). (Prerequisite - HIST300/HS334 for History and Military History majors only).
