PHYSICAL PROXIMITY TO A SCHOOL DISTRICT REQUIRED AND ACCESS MUST BE ARRANGED PRIOR TO THE FIRST WEEK OF THE COURSE. This will offer an opportunity for students to experience a variety of school settings. Students are required to complete specialized assignments that enhance their understanding of school environments. Students interview practicing school counselors, observe a curricular guidance unit prepared by an experienced counselor, assist in the delivery of group counseling services as well as other normal school counseling activities. Students are required to complete journaling experiences that document their on-site experiences and the relation to theoretical knowledge. Discussions also include ethics, working with different populations, and practical issues affecting service delivery. (Prerequisites: all courses in the program).
