Thomas E. Pfundstein

Thomas E. Pfundstein has over 15 years of professional experience as an educator. He has been involved in the research, development, implementation, and maintenance of curriculum and instruction programs at the K-12 and university levels. Tom’s expertise includes curriculum development, academic content standards, teacher preparation and training, and technology integration at the K-12 and university levels.

Academically, Tom gained a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University (1992) in Politics & Government, a MA from John Carroll University (1996) in Modern American History, and a Ph.D. from the University of Akron (2003) in Secondary Education. His dissertation entitled, The Effects of Web-based Versus Web-enhanced Learning on High School Students’ Learning Outcomes and Self-Regulatory Skills, was successfully defended in December 2003. His current research interests include developing and implementing technology-based curricula, the impact educational technology has on the teaching and learning process, and instructing and faculty development, including modeling Best Practices in Curriculum and Instruction for pre-service and current educators. As a Senior Lecturer in the College of Education at the University of Akron, Tom has instructed and trained current and future administrators and teachers on curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, and educational technology integration at the K-12 levels. He has also designed, developed, and implemented online and hybrid courses in educational technology, curriculum development, learning styles and educational psychology while at Akron and Walden University.

Tom has also served as a member of the AOL Educator Advisory Board. As a member of the board, he advised AOL@SCHOOL on the selection of educational content and materials (Internet-based) for use on the company’s educational portal. Other services included giving presentations, serving as booth staff at conferences and trade shows, or conducting in-service or product training sessions, and meeting annually at corporate headquarters to collaborate on current trends as they pertain to Best Practices in Curriculum and Instruction at the Secondary level. This position has also led to his role as the author of AOL@SCHOOL’s bi-monthly online educational newsletter, which informed educators about the products and services of AOL@SCHOOL.
