Kathy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Baker University. She also holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. She has been with AMU for five years as a Program Manager for Management and Marketing degree programs, as a professor teaching Management, Strategic Planning, Small Business Management, and Small Business Growth and Development and, most recently, as the Department Chair for the undergraduate and master's in Management degree programs.
Kathy comes to AMU with a background in private industry in which she held positions ranging from Project Manager at Sprint, to Executive Director at the Lindsborg Arts Council and Accountant and Employee Benefits Manager at News TV Corporation. She founded and managed her own business providing in-home client management services for elderly clients.
Kathy is a native of North Dakota, the second of ten children and mother of two daughters. She divides her time between New York City and Sweden, where her daughters reside, and her residence in Lawrence, Kansas. She loves to travel and will be visiting Sweden and Italy as well as several U.S. destinations this year. Kathy is a member of Golden Key Honor Society and Mensa International. Her personal development goals this year include beginning a PhD program and learning Swedish.
Kathy is an intrinsically motivated goal setter, a quality which sustained her through the eleven year period during which she pursued her undergraduate degree on her lunch hours and in the evenings while raising her daughters as a single parent and working both a full-time and part-time job. As a former non-traditional adult learner who managed competing priorities, Kathy has a deep appreciation of and respect for the students at AMU who are managing and meeting similar demands.
