Andrew J Bell

Professor Bell has over 20 years of law enforcement experience with the Virginia Beach Police Department in Virginia Beach, Virginia. From 1982-1990 he worked as a patrol officer, master police officer, and detective (property and economic crime squads).

In 1990 Professor Bell was promoted to sergeant and from 1990-1999 worked as a patrol supervisor, community-policing sergeant, and school resource supervisor. In 2000 he was assigned as a property crimes detective sergeant.

Prior to his law enforcement career, Professor Bell was on active duty with the United States Army as an enlisted soldier. In 1988 he received a commission in the Army Reserves. After September 11, 2001 he was called to active duty. As a Major on active duty he served as the officer in charge of the Fort Eustis Installation Operations Center. As a result of his Army service, in November 2003 he left the Virginia Beach Police Department to work for the Department of the Army Civil Service. He is currently on active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Army Capabilities Integration Center at Fort Monroe VA.

Professor Bell has a Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Troy State University, Alabama; a Bachelors of Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University, Virginia; and an Associate of Arts from St. Leo College, Florida. Professor Bell is married, has three children, and lives in Williamsburg, Virginia.
