Biography - Larry M Forness


Dr. Larry Forness is a Full Professor at APUS, and is one of the owners of the University. He has taught more than 5,000 APUS students, and is one of the longest-tenured faculty members.

He is a former United States Marine, with expertise in intelligence and unconventional warfare. He provides classified consulting services to various units of the U.S. Military, particularly in counterterrorism. He has also worked with special units of our allies, notably Israel and South Korea. He was a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) and American Legion China Post #1 (operating in exile).

Dr. Forness was the Founder of the National Center for Sports Medicine and was its Director for more than ten years. While at the National Center for Sports Medicine, he developed the L.I.F.E. Test, a set of clinical tests, measurements and examinations that determine a person's true bio-physiological age. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and holds its highest-level certification--Director of Health and Fitness; one of fewer than 250 healthcare specialists in the world to hold that distinction.

Dr. Forness was accepted into Mensa, as well as being certified as a Healthcare Accountant and Financial Manager by Indiana University.

Dr. Forness did his undergraduate training at Notre Dame and took some of his advanced degrees and training from prestigious universities such as Duke University and UCLA. He took his first course via distance education at age 20. He has been an adjunct faculty member at various universities for nearly two decades, and was a Dean of Distance Education at a major healthcare university in the southeastern United States.

His latest book: Don't Get Duped! A Consumer's Guide to Health and Fitness (about fraud and deception in the health and fitness industry), was published by Prometheus Books. He is a sport parachutist, a licensed pilot (with Instrument Rating), a First Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, as well as being an avid weightlifter. His latest pasttime is learning to play boogie woogie on the piano.

He is single and lives near the campus of the University of Notre Dame, where he took his undergraduate degree.
