Biography - Matthew Hubbs

Matt Hubbs earned his bachelors of arts in psychology from Iowa State University in 2002. After getting some real-world experience in residential treatment programs for adolescents and adults with mental illnesses and drug addictions, he returned to school and earned his masters of science in counseling from the University of Phoenix-San Diego in 2007. Since then, he has been enrolled and is all-but-dissertation on a doctorate of education in counseling psychology.

Most of Matt's work in the field of mental health has been with children, adolescents, and families. His dissertation topic is an examination of the family functioning in skipped-generation grandfamilies (in which grandparents raise their grandchildren with the parent generation absent). He has always been very interested in family systems and how families operate and members communicate and relate to one another.

In addition to his work in the field of mental health, Matt have been teaching both in online classrooms and on campuses since July of 2008. He currently teaches at four other universities and thoroughly enjoys the interaction with students and the ability to relay information he has learned in his nine years in the field thus far.

Beyond work, Matt and his wife are the delighted if not at times exhausted parents of their newborn son, Weldon. They're also somewhat dog-enthusiasts as his wife is a trainer and competitor in dog sports. While Matt currently serves the role of cheerleader for his wife's work with their pets, he looks to get involved with it himself in the future once he completes his education. Matt also enjoys reading, staying up on politics, current events, and cultural studies, and creative writing.
