Biography - Nicole A Nesberg

Hello my name is Nicole Nesberg and I love history.

I received a BA in history from the University of Michigan, 1995; an MS in international affairs from Florida State University, 1997; and, an MA in history from Eastern Michigan University, 2005. I am ABD at the University of Florida with specializations in Native American women, gender and urbanization in the 20th century.

I am employed as an adjunct professor of history at Santa Fe College, where I have worked since 2006. I have also served at some point as an adjunct professor at Bethune-Cookman (Daytona, FL), Concordia University (Ann Arbor, MI), and Washtenaw Community College (Ypsilanti, MI). Prior to working as a history professor, I worked as a Project Engineer at DaimlerChrysler dealing with elements of concern in vehicles. Other careers include being an investigator for the Florida Bar Examiners, conducting background checks on attorneys, and doing computer graphics for Homes & Land Real Estate Magazine (nationwide) and Alliance & Leceister Building Society in England.

In academia I was recognized as teacher of the year at The University of Florida in 2008. From 2007-2009 I received research awards from the University of Chicago and Newberry Library, attendance awards from the Western History Association, and various graduate research awards at the University of Florida. In 2009, I had encyclopedia entries on Plains Indians and the Trail of Tears published in the Encyclopedia of the Early Republican and Antebellum America.

On a personal level, I was raised on the Canadian border in the U.P. of Michigan and am a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. We had a small farm and fished and hunted all of my childhood. I've lived in sunny Florida twice 1995-1999 and 2005-date. I decided I like the sun more than the snow and most days ride a motorycle around town and to work. I had my first child Dec. 6 2011 who I simply adore and happily dominates my life. This is my boyfriend and my first child and we couldn't be more excited.

In addition I have shot a pool league for about 15 years, play trivia at least once a week (used to host it), and love to cook and watch the food network. I'm a major major sports fan and fortunately my boyfriend is too. We watch college football endlessly, but I'm more a pro-fan and pull for my Green Bay Packers weekly - and I can say MY packers and my family has public stock in the team, so even if not a fan, one can appreciate how unique that is.

When I find time I love to travel, it's my #1 hobby - it can be as close as a weekend to Tampa/Jax for a sporting event, or someplace further usually every few years.

For over a decade I have lived in Florida, currently residing in Ocala (about 2 hours north of Orlando). So hello, I'm always interested in where other people are from - tell me about you!
