Biography - Gary R Withers

Gary Withers earned his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho before spending a few years as a Navy officer. In the Navy he worked for the Department of Naval Reactors on the faculty at the Navy Nuclear Power School (which was in Florida at the time) teaching Math and Physics to the sailors who run the reactors on submarines and aircraft carriers.

Upon leaving the Navy, he went to work for Intel Corporation in Oregon. He started there as a technical trainer and manager in the Supercomputer Systems Division. After earning his MBA degree through the University of Oregon, he moved into the Finance department as manager of Employee Information Systems and as a facilitator of First-Line and Middle Manager Development Programs. He finished his Intel career as an Academic Relations Engineer and University Relations Program Manager, working with researchers and professors at ten research universities around the country to determine how Intel could support their research efforts with donations of equipment and money. Intel was good about supporting him through two masters degrees and a Ph.D.

After a decade at Intel, Gary Withers left the land of cubicles and took on other teaching opportunities in Science, Math, and Business Management. In addition to teaching for the American Public University System, he occasionally teaches high school science and a few other college math and business classes. In his spare time he enjoys running, rowing, biking and weight lifting.

Gary's wife Patti plays volleyball and coaches high school volleyball and track and field. They have four children.
