Biography - Rachel M Madsen


Dr. Rachel Madsen is a part-time faculty member in sport management and teaches a variety of courses. She holds a PhD from the University of Connecticut in Kinesiology and a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California. Her current research projects focus on various aspects of gender and sport.

Dr. Madsen has 12 years of experience working in college athletics in such roles as: head basketball coach, assistant athletic director, senior woman administrator, compliance coordinator, and physical education program coordinator. She has also served on various NCAA, state, and conference committees. Dr. Madsen has also participated in several athletic leadership training programs including the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement and the NCAA/Horizon League Women's Leadership Symposium.

Dr. Madsen spent a short time in the US Army Reserves in Boston, MA and Norfolk, VA where she was trained in logistics and served as the Physical Training NCO. Dr. Madsen earned a Bachelor of Arts From Castleton State College (Castleton, VT) in Criminal Justice and Psychology where she was a 2 sport athlete in basketball and softball.

In her free time, Dr. Madsen enjoys watching college basketball and participating in many outdoor activities.
