Biography – Josephine (Jo-Ann) S. Testaverde
Dr. Jo-Ann Testaverde has a B.A. from Emmanuel College, M.Ed. from Suffolk University and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study and Doctorate of Education from Northeastern University. Her dissertation was titled: A Model for Interagency Collaboration and Joint Decision-Making of Case Disposition for Children and Youth from a Special Education Perspective in the State of New Hampshire.
Dr. Testaverde is an accomplished educator with over 40 years experience. She has been Acting Dean and Assistant Dean for a graduate school of education, as well as a program coordinator for non-licensure degree studies and an adjunct professor and senior faculty member teaching in the areas of special education and school leadership/administration.
Along with her experience in higher education, she has held positions in the public and private sector as director of pupil personnel services/ student services/ special education and school psychologist. Leading to her leadership roles in special education, Dr. Testaverde was an elementary principal and director/principal of a private special education secondary program. She has taught at the elementary and secondary school level, along with teaching bilingual education in Colombia, South America. Other experiences include student/parent advocate and educational consultant for local school districts, in the areas of professional development, special education and school/ organizations/community partnerships.
She has served in leadership roles on the executive boards of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and the Massachusetts’ Association of Administrators of Special Education. Her work at the state level includes a number of appointments by Massachusetts’ governors to task forces and study groups in vocational and special education. She has presented at various conferences in the area of special education.
Dr. Testaverde’s community work in educational leadership continues with 17 years as an elected and appointed member of local and regional school committees/boards.
Jo-Ann Testaverde has been married to her husband of 43 years Dr. Sal Testaverde. They have one daughter, Liliana. Both Sal and Liliana are professors of higher education in undergraduate liberal arts. The Testaverdes enjoy music, cooking and traveling.
