When I left high school, a long time ago, my first job was as a Gunner's Mate in the United States Navy. It's hard to believe that was so long ago, but as I look back upon those days they were among the finest I ever spent. It was only a few years, but I saw a lot of the world and made friendships that lasted decades past the time my enlistment ended.
After the service, I went to college at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, but finished at Northern Illinois University... the reason for the change was simple: the state of Illinois, where I'd enlisted, had an offer to veterans that they would pay full tuition at any Illinois school, provided you'd enlisted in Illinois... and I had enlisted in Illinois! Northern Illinois was a terrific school, and I had some of my best academic success there... Go Huskies!
Graduate school I attended at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania... it was a small school, but a very enjoyable one, as well. I learned a lot there, and received a Master of Science in mathematics. Once I was finished there, I decided it was time to stop hiding from the world, and so I went into the teaching field.
I taught for a long time in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at Tidewater Community College, and then moved out west to teach in Colorado for a few years... and then I became very interested in the opportunity to teach online. I saw this as the new frontier in education, and so I threw my hat into that ring, and have been working with dedicated professionals to improve online quality for the past six years... it has been a great experience!
Outside the classroom, I like to write (math books and also a novel!), to play with my cats, and to spend time with my best friend and wife, Debbie. I also enjoy serving my church and trying to do my little part to help my fellow man... and if I can make life a little better for just a few folks, then I figure I have done an okay job of things!
