Biography - AnnaMaria C Cardinalli

AnnaMaria C Cardinalli

Greetings AMU Community!

My name is AnnaMaria Cardinalli, and most friends and colleagues call me "CC." I teach in the graduate program of Intelligence and National Security Studies, and it has been an unusual journey that brought me here.

My Ph.D. is in Theology, from the University of Notre Dame. (Go Irish!) Long before September 11th, I was researching the convergences and conflicts in the cultures of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. This was a significant part of my dissertation research, as was some ethnographic field work to learn from the people who lived their faiths.

I later trained and served as an intelligence analyst with the FBI and eventually with the Joint Special Operations Command on deployment in Iraq. My academic and military interests converged when I joined the US Army Human Terrain Program.

I served as the Senior Social Scientist for Helmand Province, Afghanistan on the first Human Terrain Team embedded with the US Marines, and I enjoyed the opportunity to interact with Afghan communities directly while on patrol. In addition, I helped to train and served as a member of the initial USMC Female Engagement Team (FET).

In addition to my work as a federal employee, I have worked as a contractor on numerous intelligence, training, defense, and counterintelligence/security projects. I currently run my own firm, D'Angelo Global Solutions (www.dangeloglobal.com). I am an active licensed private investigator, and I am privledged to be a Navy reservist. (Go Navy!)

In a parallel career, I am a classical/flamenco guitarist and an opera singer. I'm a proud stuent of Janice Pantazelos at the Chicago Studio of Professional Singing, and have even sung on an album with Kanye West. I tour frequently on the university concert and lecture circuit.

In my spare time, what little there is, I am a poor but highly determined knitter, and an excellent grower of heirloom tomatos.

I look forward to getting to know the AMU community as co-learners and colleagues.
