Biography - Bruce A Johnson

Dr. Bruce A. Johnson (Dr. J) has had a life-long love of learning. He completed his Ph.D. in the field of Adult Education from Capella University, with a specific interest in adult learning within an online classroom environment. He completed a Masters in Business in Administration from the University of Phoenix, a second Masters in Adult Education from Capella University, a Certificate in Training and Performance Improvement from Capella University, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Lindenwood University. The first master's degree was completed in a physical classroom environment and the rest of his class work was completed in an online classroom. As you can see, Dr. J values professional development and understands what it's like to attend class online while facing other demands, such as working full-time.

Dr. J spent the first half of his career in the insurance claims industry, where his job titles included claims manager, litigation manager, arbitrator, and manager of training and development. The second half of his career has been involved in working with what he is most passionate about, helping adults learn and grow; both personally and professionally. Dr. J first taught classes as an adjunct instructor in a traditional classroom and then discovered the online platform. For the past six years Dr. J has facilitated online classes, online student workshops, and online faculty workshops for the University of Phoenix and Kaplan University. He also mentors new online faculty members. In addition to his work an online educator Dr. J is also a professional writer. He writes weekly articles related to the field of adult education as this was the focus of his doctoral studies and dissertation. Dr. J also owns a business that provides career resources, career coaching and mentoring, and resources for educators.

Dr. J’s personal philosophy about learning: I believe there are no limits to what we can achieve; we all have an ability to realize our full potential because of our capacity to learn. What it takes to achieve academic success is determination, commitment, and most importantly of all a willingness to learn and grow. Believe in yourself, believe in what you can be, hold on to that vision and you will make it!!
