My name is Mary Ann Hughes Butts and I am writing you from fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to facilitating courses for APUS, I currently work as an adjunct faculty member at the College of Southern Nevada, University of Phoenix, and Ashford University. I also work as a guest teacher for the Clark County School District.
I was not always a teacher. I spent over 16 years in the credit union industry with 10 years of that in executive management as a Vice President of Information Technology. I loved the industry and I loved the strategy/management part of my job. However, the job required really long hours at all hours of the day or night. So, about four years ago I quit my job to take up teaching. Teaching was one of my first career choices. I just got side-tracked for a little while.
I have a BA in English from Arizona State University (GO DEVILS!). I completed my MBA/TM from University of Phoenix (UoP) on ground in 2001. After a couple of years, I enrolled in the DM program at UoP. The DM program was completely online (minus the residencies) and was a wonderful experience. I completed my doctorate of management in organizational leadership in July 2008.
When not teaching, I spend my time with my husband and our dog. We have just one dog, an English Bulldog named Arthur. I would have another dog but Arthur is enough work for at least two dogs! I volunteer my time at an animal hospital on the weekends. I also enjoy writing, reading, listening to music, and baking.
As I am sure you have noticed, I have a really long name and it’s easy to trip over my last names. Please call me Dr. HB as it is much easier to remember.
