Lanita Lloyd's experience includes over seven years with Cobb County Georgia's Emergency Management Agency. While there, she coordinating response and recovery efforts for two record flooding events, two tornadoes, and local support of approximately 2,000 evacuees during Hurricane Katrina. She also served as the executive coordinator for five major full-scale weapons of mass destruction exercises within the county. Education and preparedness have always been considered her top priorities, and under her direction, Cobb County’s CERT program grew to become a model program for the state of Georgia and beyond. As she departed Cobb, the CERT program had over 1,200 volunteer members, the largest number of volunteers in the state.
Lanita's past experience includes nineteen years with the State of Georgia. She worked in the areas of communication, licensing, and aviation, and served as a Planner for the Georgia State Patrol’s Director. Lanita’s last position with the state was a Planner in the Georgia Office of Homeland Security. During her time with Georgia’s Office of Homeland Security, she also served as a representative on the Coast Guard’s Georgia Ports Committee and completed projects such as the Georgia Fire Fighter’s Executive Sessions, the creation of the State Threat Con Chart, and the Area Seven Dual Role Survey.
Lanita obtained her State Certified Emergency Management Certification in 2004, the Georgia Master Manager Certification in 2008, and the recognition as a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) from the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) in 2007. She has served as the President and First Vice President of the Emergency Management Association of Georgia (EMAG) and was the Chairman of the Area 7 EMA UASI/All-Hazards Committee, the IAEM-USA Region IV President Elect 2011-2012, and a member of Georgia’s Incident Management Team. Lanita was one of approximately fifteen local emergency managers throughout the nation chosen to serve on the Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 101 Committee and is a member of the IAEM CEM Commission. Lanita graduated Summa Cum Laude from Shorter College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and holds a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University.
Lanita is married to Mickey Lloyd and together they have five children and two grandchildren.
