Biography - Joseph I Molyneux


Dr. Joseph Molyneux, presently with the FBI's Directorate of Intelligence, manages intelligence collection, domain assessment, and intelligence report production and dissemination. He recently retired after 18 years as Vice President of Security of Freeport McMoran, Vice President of Freeport Indonesia and Vice President of FM Services, a Fortune 500 multinational natural resources conglomerate. From 2000 to 2005, he sat on the Board of Directors of a multinational security services company headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia, PT Shields Asia, providing strategic political and security direction to the senior management and performing other fiduciary responsibilities. During his tenure as a Director, PT Shields grew from 50 to over 5000 employees, capturing over 17 percent of the security services market in the 4th most populous country in the world.

While at Freeport McMoran, Dr. Molyneux managed a security force of over 700 civilian personnel and 700 military personnel, managing security and related programs including industrial security, executive protection, aviation security, asset protection, port and maritime security, counter terrorism, counter corporate economic espionage and internal security. He also served as Senior Manager of Infrastructure in Freeport Indonesia. He received both his doctoral and masters degrees from the University of New Orleans in Political Science/International Law. His undergraduate degree, also in Political Science, was earned at the University of South Ala.

Prior to teaching at American Military University, Dr. Molyneux was an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at University of New Orleans and Concordia University of Wisconsin. Additionally, he served as a member of the graduate faculty, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa 2000/2001. From 1966 to 1972, Dr. Molyneux was a member of the USMCR in a Force Reconnaissance Company. From 1975 to 1980 he served in the USCGR as a Division Officer in the Port Security Group, New Orleans. In 1971 he joined the federal government as an ATF Special Agent later transferring to the U.S. Customs Service as a Special Agent. In 1973, Dr. Molyneux was transferred by Executive Direction to the newly created Drug Enforcement Administration. In DEA he served in a variety of positions; DEA headquarters, domestic field operations and as an accredited diplomatic, the Assistant Justice Attache and narcotics advisor to the American Ambassador to Pakistan. In Pakistan, he ran a national intelligence program to ascertain the host country's compliance with several international drug control treaties of which it was signatory and to assist senior U.S. foreign policy makers in the development of bi-lateral relations with that country, implementation of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1962, and to determine eligibility for narcotic control certification. Dr. Molyneux has performed consulting work for the Royal Ulster Constabulary in Belfast on IRA targeting practices and also has consulted with the Defense Department Threat Reduction Agency on the development of a computer model in predicting terrorist behavior. Recognizing his expertise in South Asian terrorism and particular terrorist organizations based out of Indonesia, Dr. Molyneux, at the request of the Office of the Vice President, has provided intelligence briefings to the Special Assist to the Vice President for National Security Affairs on South Asian terrorist groups and the capabilities of the Indonesian intelligence services. His interest are in counter terrorism, international crime and international relations
