Biography - John J Gaines


John Gaines is originally from a small town in Tennessee (Winchester). He attended Austin Peay in Clarksville his BA in Political Science. After deciding that he was not interested in going to law school, John shifted into history and started work at Middle Tennessee State for an MA. Ultimately, John earned his Ph.D. at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
He has taught history surveys for Texas Tech, as well as online courses for Drury University (the history of women in the US, Latin American history, as well as a survey class).
John’s areas of specialty include The American South, 19th Century America, Gender History, and Modern Latin America. He is currently revising his dissertation for publication and co-authoring a second work on prohibition laws in West Texas.
Outside of academia, John enjoys traveling with his family, cooking, and spending time with friends.
