Biography - Heather Caldwell


Heather Zahra Caldwell is a native New Yorker. Born and raised there she attended the State University at New Paltz graduating in 1995 with a BA in both History and Black Studies. After graduating she moved to Washington, DC attended Howard University receiving a MA in Political Science in 1997 while working full time in non-profit youth development. She left DC for Denver for a few years and continued her work in non-profit returning to DC to attend American University and teach elementary school. She is proud to have been a teacher in Washington D.C.'s public schools for over five years. She received an MAT in 2003 from American University. She currently lives in Massachusetts with her husband and is a Doctoral Candidate in African American Studies at the University of Massachusetts. Ms. Caldwell has presented at several national conferences and has published in national publications. Her research interests are centered on radicalism in the African-American community in the forties and fifties and Black Women's history.
