Biography - Ann Pohira-Vieth


Dr. Ann Pohira-Vieth, a native to Orlando, Florida, grew up playing golf competitively. As a top 10 nationally ranked junior golfer, Dr. Vieth earned a full scholarship to the University of Florida. During her freshman year at UF she played on the team that captured the SEC Championship by 29 strokes and during her senior year she also played on the team that finished second at the NCAA Division I Championship. While at the University of Florida she majored in Telecommunications with an emphasis in TV & Radio production. After graduation, Dr. Vieth went directly to Georgia Southern University where she taught as a graduate assistant for two years while earning her Master’s in Sport Management. Missing Florida, Dr. Vieth moved back to the sunshine state and worked for one year at Saddlebrook Prep as a golf coach and house parent and then transitioned directly to the position of Program Coordinator of the Golf Course Management program at Saint Leo University. Dr. Vieth spent 6 years teaching in the College of Business and working as Coordinator of the Golf Course Management Program. During her time at Saint Leo University, Dr. Vieth worked with the Sport Management Program Review Council (SMPRC) to approve university sport management programs. In addition to teaching full time, Dr. Vieth earned her MBA from Saint Leo University and started in her doctoral program at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Vieth left Saint Leo University in 2006 to devote her time to work on her dissertation full time. In May 2010, Dr. Vieth graduated with her Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis in Administration and Teaching from the University of Southern Mississippi. In addition to teaching at American Public University, Dr. Vieth has also taught at Georgia Southern University, Seminole State College, Full Sail University, Florida Institute of Technology, American Public University, University of Phoenix, and the University of Central Florida. Along with her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Vieth is on the Executive Board of the Florida Women’s State Golf Association where she served as President of the nonprofit organization from 2009-2010 and she also owns and operates Green Button Events, a wedding planning and event consultation firm. Currently she is doing some consulting work for Frankly Golf in which she is a course moderator for an online Certified Putting Instructor course for PGA professionals.
