Hi everyone. Thank you for visiting my personal page. My name is Steve Ryan. In the classroom I prefer to go by Mr. Ryan. I look forward to working with you in the APUS classroom. I have been teaching college English and related topics for more than 12 years both online and oncampus. Students know me as an energetic, dynamic instructor who challenges ideas and asks thought provoking questions in the classroom to help understand the material.
My overall goal in the classroom is always to help students to learn and grow and enjoy the course at the same time.
My background started in the early 1980s as a journalist for the New York Post. In eight plus years I accomplished lucrative interviews with such legends as Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, as well as political figures and entertainers. In addition to these interviews I was recognized on numerous occasions for my writing and my articles.
In the early 1990s my wife, Lorraine, and I moved to Los Angeles where I became editor of a major publishing firm. At this publishing firm in Los Angeles I was the editor in charge for monthly magazines of a nationally known publisher, coordinating all assignments with writers and photographers on a weekly basis and managed deadlines and deliverables from the reporters and photographers on a daily basis. I had more than 35 freelance writers reporting, 28 photographers, three fulltime staff copy editors and two assistant editors. I was also in charge of production of the publications and overall sell-through at the newsstands, spearheading the changes in the publications that led to increased sales on the newsstands. I left the publishing firm after 2 plus years to pursue an advanced position with the Upper Deck Company in 1996.
After many years working in the sports industry, working for The Upper Deck Company was a natural fit since the manufacturer of sports cards and memorabilia was connected to the sports industry. I was placed in charge of a 70 million dollar baseball card business, working directly with retail chains to provide them with the appropriate products that would meet the sales goals. It was while I was with Upper Deck in the 1990s that I began to teach English classes and related classes at the collegiate level. I have been teaching ever since.
In addition to teaching, for the last 2 plus years I have led a team of 25 fulltime instructors in teaching Notary law throughout the state of California. Since there is a state law requirement that all new and renewing notaries must take a six hour class and pass a state test my group helped thousands of people become notaries ever day and month. I was in charge of the academic rigor and discipline that instructors must adhere to at seminars since the classes are closely watched by the state of California. I managed the daily seminars, the passing rates at each seminars, as well as the publication of the workbooks necessary for the seminars. I also managed the online classes and the Notary classes that take place on a monthly basis.
Teaching has been a passion of mine and continues to be a passion. I love to help students learn.

I look forward to working with you.
To your success.
