Hello Everyone! I am Jennifer Dale and I live in Algonquin, Illinois which is about 50 miles northwest of Chicago. I am married to my wonderful husband Scott and we have four children Erik (11 yr. old), Grace (10 yr. old), Evelyn (9 yr. old) and Will (7 yr. old). I also have a step-daughter, Alex and a one-year old grandson – Axel.
I earned my Bachelors degree in Mathematics, emphasis Probability and Statistics from Northern Illinois University many years ago. My first “career” was as a financial advisor. While I enjoyed working the numbers, after 5 years in that field, I knew this was not what I wanted to do the rest of my life. My passion in life has and always will be math and I knew one day I would fulfill my dream of becoming a math teacher. I started my teaching career as a substitute teacher at the high school level. I quickly realized that teaching older students was what I wanted to do.
After many years I decided to go back to school. In May 2006 I earned my Masters degree in Pure Mathematics from Northern Illinois University and graduated with honors. These were the most challenging years of my life. I had all four of my children within four years while pursuing my Masters degree and teaching math part-time in the evenings at the community college level. I like to share my experience with my students and let them know that with hard work and determination, you can accomplish anything you want to! I am currently taking classes towards my MBA, emphasis General Management and my Ph.D. in Education, Postsecondary and Adult Education specialization. I believe in always learning better ways to help my students.
I have been teaching mathematics now for over 11 years and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. Mathematics doesn’t come easy to a lot of students and I strive each and every class to help my students overcome their “fear” of math.
I enjoy teaching since I am able to be home during the summer with my kids. As a family we enjoy camping, biking, swimming in our pool, playing baseball, taking train rides all over the country, and just hanging out with our family and friends. My husband and I enjoy playing golf together when we have the chance! In my spare time (which there is not much of), I enjoy working in the yard planting flowers and taking care of our garden. I am an active member of our community and church and volunteer in my son’s 5th grade math class. My favorite activities are watching my sons’ football and baseball games; my daughters’ soccer and softball games, watching my kids “cook”, and listening to my youngest daughter sing solos in church musicals and school plays. I have lots of pets; 1 dog, 4 cats, 3 hamsters, a gecko, lots of fish, and whatever my kids decide to “adopt” from the wild!!!!
I look forward to getting to know everyone as we progress through this class!
Jennifer
PS – feel free to call me Jennifer or Professor Dale – either is just fine with me!!
