Biography - Christopher Behne

I came to American Public University from Arkansas State where I coached football and conducted a program of academic enhancement. I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Next, I was off to complete a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling Psychology at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Upon receiving both degrees I made a brief stop at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana before taking the job at Arkansas State. Currently I teach Sport Psychology as well as Coaching Football: Technical and Tactical Skills. There are two major aspects to effective instruction within any sport. First, you must thoroughly know the specifics of the game you are teaching. Second, it is important to understand the principles of teaching and learning. I enjoy teaching both aspects of this process. Football is obviously my passion as I see the game as a microcosm of life’s effort for success. This allows us to coach life skills through a game. Teaching the specifics of how the mind functions within sport is a passion for me. Coaches and teachers can increase their effectiveness by simply understanding and applying the basic principles of the mind.
