Biography - Christopher W Wilson


Chris Wilson is a native of Missouri, where he developed a passion for birds and natural areas at an early age. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Missouri, and a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Oklahoma State University. His work throughout his career has focused on land conservation, including legal protection, nature preserve management, habitat restoration, parks management, and greenway development.

Professor Wilson currently serves as Parks and Open Space Manager for the City of Liberty, Missouri. In addition to coordinating management of the City’s park system, he works collaboratively to expand green space, promote tree cover, protect conservation areas, and extend the multi-use trail network. He develops partnerships with community groups, agencies, developers, volunteers, and private landowners to enhance Liberty’s natural environment and broaden opportunities for people to experience it.

Prior to his current position, Professor Wilson spent 17 years with The Nature Conservancy managing projects and preserves in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. For 10 years, he served as Preserve Director for the Conservancy's 17,000-acre Nickel Preserve in the Oklahoma Ozarks. His work has included land protection, conservation planning, endangered species management, ecological monitoring, invasive species control, prairie and savanna restoration, and fire management. His interests include urban forestry, prairie restoration, green infrastructure planning, and sustainability.
