Biography - Yolanda Benoit


Yolanda Benoit earned a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science with cognates in Sociology and Social Work from the University of South Florida in 1997 and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Motivating At-Risk Youth from National Louis University in 2005.

She has worked for American Public University System since 2010. Currently, as a part - time adjunct instructor, she works with students new to the online learning environment by teaching the course “Foundations of Online Learning”. In addition, Mrs. Benoit has been instructing courses in critical thinking at other online educational institutions since 2008.

Before stepping into teaching, Mrs. Benoit was Program Coordinator for Sarasota Mental Health Resource Center, a drop-in social center offering education and support programs for mentally ill adults. Later, she accepted a position with Marriott's Brighton Gardens as an Activity Coordinator for its Assisted Living and Nursing Facility in Venice, Florida.

Sensing a shift in need and interest, she entered into teaching for the Sarasota Family YMCA Character Development Program, a dropout prevention program for middle and high school students. She taught and supervised this alternative dropout prevention program for several county middle and high schools several years and in this capacity, tutored, mentored and guided students from failure to success.

In her free time, she enjoys the Florida lifestyle with her husband, two young children, and extended family. They enjoy traveling up to the mountains of West Virginia, to experience the American wilderness and local history.
