Hello everyone.
My name is Steve Juaire, and I live in Winona Minnesota. I received my Ph.D. from Florida State University in Motor Behavior. Prior to my graduate work I was a head coach at the collegiate level, certified athletic trainer, instructor in first aid, and water safety instructor.
I was appointed the youngest head coach ever at our university. In 1975, after finishing my collegiate baseball career, at the age of 22, I took over Winona State university’s collegiate women’s gymnastics and softball teams, coaching gymnastics for 15 years and softball for 9 years. Our softball teams earned one trip to the NAIA College World Series, while several other teams competed in the regional semifinals and finals. Our gymnastics teams qualified for 12 straight national championships, winning two at the NAIA level. Our team’s individual honors were numerous including more than 50 All-American awards. In addition, I was both National and Regional coach of the year.
After retiring from coaching, I became our department’s Director of Athletics. It was my responsibility to convert our NAIA program to a comprehensive NCAA DIV II program. This responsibility included hiring a conference commissioner, creating a sport’s information and media services staff, games management, compliance office, and marketing and promotions departments. In addition, our men’s and women’s programs were to be merged. I implemented a comprehensive Title IX review, added women’s soccer, resurrected our community booster club, and developed a scholarship program that including several corporate promotional activities.
After retiring from the Director of Athletics position, I ran a corporate promotions and advertising business while maintaining my teaching position. As a professor I developed an online Sports Management Graduate program that partners with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I created department websites, as well as several certificate and minor websites. Future teaching assignments at American Public University will likely include sports management and coaching related courses.
I enjoy golf, fishing, travel and spending time with my family, including 25 nephews and nieces.
For 33 years I have been married to Charlotte, and we have two adult children, Matthew and Anne. Each was very active in sports that included football, soccer, track, basketball, and swimming. Charlotte recently retired from teaching composition and speech at the high school level.
