Jason M. Siniscalchi is a Research Social Scientist at the United states Coast Guard Academy, Leadership Development Center. His responsibilities are varied, but focus on improving the student experience and development of Leaders of Character through program and environmental evaluation. His research at the Coast Guard Academy is focused on two themes- Understanding restorative events through recreational opportunities and the integration of GIS technologies and quantitative and qualitative analytic techniques to improve resource management planning within the realm of human dimensions. Recently he has ventured into the realm of development of Field Guides for the iPhone (TreeID).
Over the last 10 years, Dr. Siniscalchi has authored numerous papers both in peer-reviewed and trade journals and has presented at both national and international conferences on a variety of topics from Human Dimensions Research to Process Improvement. In doing so, he has collaborated on many projects with the U. S. Forest Service, National Park Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, U. S. Coast Guard as well as state, local, and nonprofit organizations both academically and independently as a Recreation and Evaluation (Human Dimensions) Research Consultant.
Dr. Siniscalchi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Resource Science from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, in the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Resources Program. His current research is understanding the experiences and perceptions of restorative settings.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, with a dual focus on environmental and experimental psychology, Dr. Siniscalchi received his Master of Science degree in Research, Methods, and Quantitative Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences and Education (Applied Statistics) from Southern Connecticut State University, in New Haven, CT.
A native New Englander, Jason, his wife, Lynn, and Shetland Sheepdog, Riley, live in rural southeastern Connecticut and enjoy hiking, kayaking, gardening, reading, and disc golf (a particular favorite of Riley). Any time spent outdoors is time well spent!
