Donald E. Harpster received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the Pennsylvania State University in 1966 and 1969 respectively. He was awarded his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University with an emphasis in United States Social and Cultural History in 1976. His dissertation was a study of Controversy in the German Reformed Church with Special Emphasis on Nineteenth Century Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Yale University in 1972. Dr. Harpster retired in 2011 as Professor of History and Political Science and Chairperson of the Arts and Sciences Division at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, Vermont. His teaching and research interests include the U. S. Presidency, the Twenties in United States History, and American Church History. From 2002-2006, he was the Educational Coordinator of the President Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation in Plymouth, Vermont. He holds memberships in the American Historical Association, the New England Historical Association, and the Vermont Historical Association.
