Biography - Suzanne M Minarcine

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, business person, musician, nurse, and pilot, and I love to reinvent myself. Prior to my first retirement as Vice President of one of the major insurance companies, I co-authored a book on case management that was widely used in case and disease management programs. My consulting career has taken me to Germany, Japan, and Russia, and my specialty is strategic planning and business development. My aviation career has ranged from flight instructing to flying fuel to remote villages in Alaska.
Entrepreneurship is my passion, and I characterize myself as a serial entrepreneur. I started my first company in 1981, an adult day care center in Greensboro, N.C. This was a brand new concept, and it was a great learning experience. I sold it a few years later, and decided then that I liked the start-up/turnaround kinds of companies where lots of things were always going on. When I retired in 1997, I purchased a small flight school in an affluent Atlanta suburb. Within 2 years we grew from 4 aircraft to 29 and two locations. I was able to divide the company, sell it, and then I went to work for the world's largest fractional airline, where I flew many noted celebrities, sports figures, and politicians. I then founded a hospice that quickly set the standard for end-of-life care in the southern counties surrounding Atlanta. Since 2005 I have been the CEO of The Minarcine Group, and I work with businesses throughout the southeast in solving problems and developing strategies. Right now I seem to be working a lot in the entertainment industry, but I also work with several not-for-profits.
My educational career has been equally diverse, and my PhD is in Organization and Management with a specialization in leadership. My research focused on entrepreneurial strategic planning. It was a fascinating process and the research underscored the need for strategic planning.
I am a big believer in giving back to the community and I am active in several not-for-profit organizations. For the past three years, I have served as Chairperson of Come To The Table, a community diversity organization that seeks to foster better understanding and acceptance of racial and cultural differences through dialogue. I am on the Board of Directors for Southern Truth and Reconciliation, the Moore's Ford Memorial Committee, and the Southern Conservation Trust. I am a frequent speaker on diversity and multicultural issues, and have a grant to host a gathering of civil rights and antiracism groups from throughout the US, in Newnan, GA, during April 2012.
Thus far in 2012, I have presented at conferences in Greece and New Orleans. I am committed to scholarship and am constantly looking for new ideas to enhance my students' classroom experiences.
I live with my adorable husband, Bob, in Coweta County, Georgia. We are active in our community and church. We enjoy travel, reading, entertaining, gardening, racing our Porsche, and especially playing with our five little grandsons.
