
A classical scholar and ancient historian by training, since 1994 Leda has been the owner and principal of The Written Word, an independent editing and writing consultation business in Oakland, California. Working in a changing era of publishing, Leda is a freelance editor and writers' midwife, helping authors take their writing from conception to publication. She provides support and encouragement to authors, along with precision editing and proofreading. Over the past ten years she has edited numerous works in a wide variety of fields.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Leda holds a doctorate in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology from the University of California at Berkeley. Leda currently teaches classics, history, and editing courses. She is a published author and editor in her academic field.
Her academic areas of specialty include ancient religions, archaeology and social history. She studied the History of Religion and Comparative Religions at the University of Chicago before finishing her doctorate at Berkeley. Always favoring an interdisciplinary approach, her combined studies included extensive work in Anthropology, Folklore, and Public Health. She has participated in archaeological digs in Israel and Greece. Leda has been an avid swimmer for many years. Her free time pursuits include gardening, and the study of modern languages. She is the adoring mother of a twelve-year old son.
