Arthur P. Drennan received a bachelor’s of science in Naval Science from the United States Naval Academy and received his first master’s degree in Physical Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School. He was recognized with highest distinction in his second master’s degree; Strategy and National Security Studies, from the Naval War College. In late 1995 he started work at the Maritime Safety Information Division of what is now the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency where he is currently responsible for the Sailing Directions publications for the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Persian Gulf for our government. He retired from NGA in July 2011. Professor Drennan retired from the Navy in 1991 after more than 27 years service. During this service he earned the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and numerous campaign ribbons. His career included service in Vietnam, the Gulf War in 1991, 13 deployments of 6 or more months, and port visits in 46 countries. His main hobby is family history research including genetic genealogy. He is married to the former Jean Winder of Mathews, VA. Together they have two children and seven grandchildren.
