Biography - Edward J Heller


Edward J.Heller is an adjunct professor in the Sports and Health Sciences program. His teaching interests include Sports First Aid, Recovery and Rehabiliation, and Introduction to Sports Medicine. He has worked as both a certified athletic trainer and physical therapist in several settings.

As a certified athletic trainer Ed has worked in the high school, hospital, and clinical settings. He has also worked as an ATC in professional baseball for the Colorado Rockies and has done volunteer work with the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, and Washington Nationals. Ed was also an ATC in professional basketball with the Grand Rapids Flight of the IBL as well as providing rehabiliation services for a NASCAR pit crew team. Currently Ed is a physical therapist managing an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Charlotte, NC. His area of interest is sports medicine as he helps his staff ATC's with coverage for high school sporting events and also provides first aid services for local triathalons and swimming events. In addition he also works part time for Gentiva Home Health Services providing home health physical therapy for orthopedic patients.

Ed holds a Bachelor of Science degree in sports medicine from Eastern Michigan University as well as a Master of Science degree in physical therapy from Grand Valley State University. Ed's focus on education includes sharing his knowledge from his past work experiences in the field of sports medicine with his students in the classroom to help them reach their full learning potential. Ed currently attends several continuing education conferences every year to keep up to date with the latest research in sports medicine and rehabilitation. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids as well as playing softball and golf.
