
Alysia R. Harvey earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Spanish and Speech/Theater (concentration in Telecommunications) from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in May 2001. She went on to earn a Masters of Public Administration from Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia, in May 2004.
Upon graduating from FSU, Professor Harvey was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force through the Reserve Officers Training Program (ROTC). She is presently a major (select) with nearly ten years of active duty service stationed at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, where she serves as the Headquarters Pacific Air Forces Public Affairs Operations Division Chief. In this capacity, she plans and executes communication strategies to gain informed public support for PACAF people, resources and missions; formulates media relations policy for commanders; and manages an extensive internal information program to keep 45,000 people informed of Air Force and Pacific Air Forces key issues.
Prior to this assignment in Hawaii, Professor Harvey served tours of duty at RAF Lakenheath, England; Joint Task Force-Bravo, Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras; McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas; and Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Georgia. She has also deployed to various locations in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. She has earned numerous awards and decorations, to include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and three Air Force Commendation Medals.
Professor Harvey is a member of the Air Force Public Affairs Alumni Association, Military Officer’s Association of America, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and supports a variety of non-profit and charity organizations.
