Elizabeth Cook earned her BS degree in Human Services and the Arnold Fletcher Award for exceptional achievement in independent learning from Thomas Edison State College in 2001. She earned her MS degree in International Relations from Troy University in 2007 and was hired by APU/AMU later that year. She was accepted in January of 2010 into a Ph.D. program at Walden University. She is studying for a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with a concentration in Homeland Security Policy and Coordination.
She is a 14 year veteran with an extensive background in research and analysis. She transitioned to full-time employment with the university in March 2009, but stayed on with her previous employer (ESC, Inc.) as a consultant. In her consulting capacity she is focused on strategic planning in support of the Plans, Policy and International Affairs Directorate at National Guard Bureau.
In March 2011, she presented a paper at the International Studies Association annual conference in Montreal that answered the central question of whether or not the portions of the USA Patriot Act that restrict civil liberties played into the goals of al Qaeda, the terrorist group that attacked the United States on 9/11.
